After looking at Anarkali dresses in about 7 stores @ 8th cross, Malleswaram and feeling that either they were too bright/expensive/not zingy, I am already getting into the wedding mood .Not mine
There are two weddings scheduled to happen very soon, immediately after my exams .Both are cousin’s weddings so I cant help but start shopping right away …
Anyway I feel shopping for “function” wear, read ethnic salwars /sarees is cumbersome yet enjoyable
Boy, the looks of the shopkeepers when I would look at ten dresses (@one store itself!) and declare “this one doesn’t have the flowy flare, so this is not Authentic Anarkali” or when I would say “This is not worth paying so much! “were no surprise but still I pulled out each and every Anarkali dress out of their closets at all the 8th cross shops today!

These are some of the very popular childhood galli games that we have all grown up playing.
After scribbling away home-work in our four line ruled books, we would rush out to meet all neighboring friends and begin usually with Lock and Key…running behind one another, passing keys, panting and puffing we would scream time pleaseeeeeee …
After this would either be a relatively less tiring game such as Gate Gate or color color, here you choose a color or a particular gate and we run behind it and hold on to it, whoever doesn’t find one of that color gets chased and eventually is out.
I even found our method of choosing the first person to get out very interesting .We called it claps … Similar claps, out ,else not out … fights over cheating here were common ,so were deadlocks ,sometimes this process of selecting the first person to get out itself would take about 10 minutes !
Ispy was always another favorite especially if there were many favorable hiding spots; in fact we used to call it Icespice lol! Begin counting, and chori chori also look where everyone is trying to hide. Great game to explore all the hidden nooks of a house
Lagori was an aggressive game with tennis balls hitting you sharp in your legs and stomach while you tried desperately to arrange the stones in the right order at the centre, Mad rush to arrange them, the person who aimed and threw the ball well always had an advantage!
I wind up with Kunte Bille, one of my all time favorites. Draw rectangular boxes with different numbers and jump in and out of them after throwing a stone in the rightly numbered box, in sequence. It requires skill to jump on one leg in the higher levels of the game!
I don’t see much of these games being played here on my road, by the kids, but they do run around, cycle, play basketball and other games …I have no siblings and bonded with kids of my age many times through these games. I always missed having a brother /sister to play with during my earlier years. These games were also popular in school during our primary years.
I really do wish these games would get more popular rather than couch potato kids playing NFS or any video game now a days. I am not saying they are bad, they are fun too. But kids ought to discover the old-world charm of playing these games

Did you ever cheat in em?
I also remember once a fight happened in these games, the whole evening would be spent brooding over, analyzing whose mistake it was, who cheated; again and again even after getting back home but by the next evening, things would be back to normal!

Been catching up on movies this week
Began with “Cast Away”, it’s a pretty old movie, a 2000 release ,so saw it on a good print, given to me by a friend. I had not seen the second half and was really curious how Chuck would get off the island finally! I love this movie. Tom Hanks is God, yes even though Da Vinci Code and a few more of his movies disappointed me. He still reigns supreme, god; I love the scene when he wakes up to see the ship next to him, that eventually found him. Also the scene when he loses Wilson and cries out to him is beautiful.I cried when he came back and saw Kelly bursting out near the car, unable to face him after she’s moved on, it’s an amazing movie. Special effects are an added cool package. Don’t miss this one!
I saw “Pursuit of Happyness” next, highly recommended by Shru, who terms it her favorite movie (: Well, Will Smith is magic on screen, I fell in love with him way back while watching “Independence Day” and he still retains that magic. His son, Jaden Smith, beware is not just a cute freebie here, but gives him serious
competition. Both are a delight to watch. It is based on a true story about a man called Chris Gardener who went on to build an investment firm.The climax is a total tear jerker; I love it when he says in response to “Was it as easy as it looks? , No Sir, it wasn’t“in the end when he finally gets the internship.One portion was missing in the print I saw; I do not know how the old beggar got hold of the “Time Machine”! Chuckle!
“Aaja Nachle “was one movie I wanted to watch from a really long time. I pretty much liked the movie though I wonder why it didn’t click with the audiences?! Maybe too much drama, but well, it is pure Bollywood material (: Akshaye Khanna, mannn, silent and sexy, he is so under rated as an actor! There is a lovely lovely song by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan in the movie that wasn’t popular in the trailers .I am humming it like crazy ever since I heard it (: See video below ,O re Piya …. (:
Just watched “Gandhi my father” on DVD. Again, Akshaye Khanna is a revelation as Harilal Gandhi, the confused son of Bapu. This guy is amazing, From Taal to DCH, to a string of trashy movies (read Shaadi se Pehle and many many more
to Gandhi my father ,his work has come a long way. I add him to my list of yummy n talented Bollywood heroes.
This movie is touching and sometimes the pace is terribly slow but the script makes up for it somehow .Darshan Jhariwala is impressive as Gandhi and Shefali Shah plays the somber yet strong Kasturba in this historical . I recommend it if you prefer watching a historical, this one is not surely not boring (:

LIVE TO EAT!
I have always felt strongly believed that people who preach “Eat to live” and not otherwise are either blessed with sore taste buds /poor appetites or simply are calorie obsessed.
Food is such an integral part of our lives and I loooove it to no end.
From amma’s anna saaru to Germany’s Ferrero Garden to roadside golguppa to Domino’s Stuffed Crunch Pizza, I am madly in love with em all, and always game for any gastronomical delights

tagged me with this very interesting food meme, and finally, I am writing it out today after all my internals ka tenshun !
So, here we go!
1. What’s your favorite table?
There is this small hotel called Janatha @ Malleswaram 8th Cross, I have a favorite spot while sitting in this extremely stuffy, usually overcrowded place. It is right near the inner entrance to the Family dining room (lol!) and devour their trademark “Uddin Vade”, also I love the coffee at CCD, right next to it, you must check out this place
2. What would you have for your last supper?
Considering the high that anything sweet gives me, I would begin with any of these chocolates ,then drink a big dollop of Hershey’s chocolate syrup, then devour 5 gulab jamoons prepared by Jamoon Aunty(Jalaja aunty,I love it when u send jamoons especially made for me ! ) and have one DBC, then have gasgase payasa that mum prepares, Eat some nice pies, drink strawberry smoothies, eat kheer next, then finally finish up with eating only cream, puuuuure cream with probably lychees ! I think this is a crazy line-up but anything sweet, I’m up for grabs !
3. What’s your poison?
Anything extra spicy, in fact my definition of “normal” spicy food is extremely debatable
Isn’t it obvious given my sweet tooth ?
And sometimes when amma puts kobri(coconut) in every single meal, It annoys me !
My friends sometimes tell me that I eat patient food (read Bland!) I disagree, I love pickles and they aren’t bland!
4. Name your three desert island ingredients.
Is this a meal I would like to make one on an island or what?! 
If yes, it would have to be pasta with tons and tons of cheese

5. What would you put in Room 101?
Failed to grab the significance here. But I would put in a lovely bouquet of red roses ,a bottle of the finest champagne and of course, black forest pastry for dessert
6. Which book gets you cooking?
Not applicable
Ask my mom
She has no hopes of making me try n cook ! My husband, wherever you are, beware!
7. What’s your dream dinner party line up?
In fact, I think ‘my last day’ meal Question 2 answers this too
But I think the finest of desserts would be my ultimate dream line up, I don’t even want a first course, second course but I would be happy if salads were also on the menu !
8. What was your childhood teatime treat?
I remember my childhood breakfasts very well indeed rather than tea time treats-big bowl of cornflakes, or sometimes omlettes, toast, fruits, horlicks(a big glass!,phew)
Tea time used to be horlicks again with biscuits !
9. What was your most memorable meal?
Hmmm still thinking, will update soon
When I used to go swimming, mom got me a cornetto every single day during the whole month of my course; this was in class 6 @k.c.reddy. This is one of my fondest memories..
This is silly, I think the first time I ate the MAC Veggie with extra white sauce(yup, tat’s what we called mayo ! ) and fries !I fell in love with junk food right there !
Then the first time I ate at Desmonds, Ebony I loved them both.
Also CTR’s dosas and a tiny bakery called Agarwal near my place, his ghee dosas and chaat are to die for! Its named aptly “my sasural” by my friends
10. What was your biggest food disaster?
Again not applicable! But I can make tolerable tea and great 2-min noodles!hey i once made that cooker cake ,it wasnt all that bad
11. What’s the worst meal you’ve ever had?
It was at this Andhra Restaurant just a couple of months ago, the food was really spicy and getting to me, I drank more water than I ate anything! But it still doesn’t classify as the worst one.
The worst one would probably be Sikandar’s buffet, it disappointed me totally, the occasion, mood, all perfect but the food a disaster !
12. Your food hero/food villian?
Hero would be anybody who doesn’t comment on me saying “God, don’t u eat! “I’m tired of answering this wherever I go and when they watch me eating, they bug me with How do u manage to stay so slim! “ Bah!
Villian –would be a person who always screams “don’t eat this ,it is 9889 calories” wtf, it’s me who will gain em ,not you, ok ,so chill
13. Nigella or Delia?
Huh ?!
14. Vegetarians: genius or madness?
I totally respect it as a personal decision, but I prefer vegetarian food always and it will remain so, can’t stand the weird stink that comes with fish nor the sickly shape of chicken! aargh

I was waiting for an Indiranagar bus @ Majestic a couple of days ago and there was a familiar song playing from a tiny Display screen ….
It was Mile Sur mera tumhara
Does anyone remember this song? It was played every single day religiously on Doordarshan during our school days. I remember being taught the names of all the gifted artists in this song by Amma .
There was Dr.Balamurali Krishna,Bhimsen Joshi ,Lata Mangeshkar and one could also spot several movie starts like Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Hassan, Mithun Chakraborty, Jitendra, Waheeda Rehman, Sharmila Tagore, Shabana Azmi, Hema Malini,Tanuja Chandra in the song . Sports stalwarts such as Narendra Hirwani, Venkataraghavan, Prakash Padukone(Deepika Padukone ke papa
), Arun Lal were also a part of this historic song .
I missed M.S.S in this song,She truly was one icon missing from this video
A powerhouse of talent, coupled with a melodious composition that made it so popular.
I googled around and found some more gyan on this historic song.
- It was made with the purpose of strengthening our national integration .
- Created in 1988 by Lok Seva Sanchar Parishad and widely played on DoorDarshan.
- DD was India’s only broadcaster way back then ,can u imagine a life like tat now ?
- It goes thus -”Mile Sur Mera tumhara,toh sur bane hamara ” meaning If you and I sing the same tune,then it becomes ours.
- The song ends by fading into the final notes of our National Anthem .
Here’s the video, I love the song and its simple meaning conveyed so powerfully by such a wide range of talented Indians. Makes me very nostalgic,I believe the video is played even today on DD on special occasions such as Republic Day and Independence Day,though I fail to watch DD that day
