Been catching up on movies this week
Began with “Cast Away”, it’s a pretty old movie, a 2000 release ,so saw it on a good print, given to me by a friend. I had not seen the second half and was really curious how Chuck would get off the island finally! I love this movie. Tom Hanks is God, yes even though Da Vinci Code and a few more of his movies disappointed me. He still reigns supreme, god; I love the scene when he wakes up to see the ship next to him, that eventually found him. Also the scene when he loses Wilson and cries out to him is beautiful.I cried when he came back and saw Kelly bursting out near the car, unable to face him after she’s moved on, it’s an amazing movie. Special effects are an added cool package. Don’t miss this one!
I saw “Pursuit of Happyness” next, highly recommended by Shru, who terms it her favorite movie (: Well, Will Smith is magic on screen, I fell in love with him way back while watching “Independence Day” and he still retains that magic. His son, Jaden Smith, beware is not just a cute freebie here, but gives him serious
competition. Both are a delight to watch. It is based on a true story about a man called Chris Gardener who went on to build an investment firm.The climax is a total tear jerker; I love it when he says in response to “Was it as easy as it looks? , No Sir, it wasn’t“in the end when he finally gets the internship.One portion was missing in the print I saw; I do not know how the old beggar got hold of the “Time Machine”! Chuckle!
“Aaja Nachle “was one movie I wanted to watch from a really long time. I pretty much liked the movie though I wonder why it didn’t click with the audiences?! Maybe too much drama, but well, it is pure Bollywood material (: Akshaye Khanna, mannn, silent and sexy, he is so under rated as an actor! There is a lovely lovely song by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan in the movie that wasn’t popular in the trailers .I am humming it like crazy ever since I heard it (: See video below ,O re Piya …. (:
Just watched “Gandhi my father” on DVD. Again, Akshaye Khanna is a revelation as Harilal Gandhi, the confused son of Bapu. This guy is amazing, From Taal to DCH, to a string of trashy movies (read Shaadi se Pehle and many many more
to Gandhi my father ,his work has come a long way. I add him to my list of yummy n talented Bollywood heroes.
This movie is touching and sometimes the pace is terribly slow but the script makes up for it somehow .Darshan Jhariwala is impressive as Gandhi and Shefali Shah plays the somber yet strong Kasturba in this historical . I recommend it if you prefer watching a historical, this one is not surely not boring (:
Hoping to watch a few more movies this week (: study holidays on, supposedly .VTU ,Bhagwan jaane kya hoga mera

Megs – This movies I catched up last month – some of them I had already seen, but being a movie buff, it happens!
1. The Shawshank Redemption
2. Usual Suspects
3. A Few Good Men – Shaurya was good for Kay Kay and Rahul Bose, but nothing compared to Jack Nicholson
4. Jannat – oops!
5. Vacany
Thumbs up for Cast Away, Pursuit of Happyness and Gandhi. Didn’t like Aaja Nachle – the “Madhuri Charisma” was just not there!
Keep smiling n keep posting,
~RJ
Ah hmmm.. now i know what’s keeping you busy
In the Pursuit of Happyness, he finally gets the job, not internship.
And, the old beggar got hold of the “Time Machine” when Gardner in escaping the taxi driver hops on to a train just in time but his hand holding the ‘time machine’ stays outside the closing door. He’s forced to drop the ‘time machine’ as the train chugs along.. The old beggar is seen on the platform who picks up the ‘time machine’
‘Pursuit of Happyness’ is one of my fauvorites too. Will Smith is simply superb and has done justice to his role.
Few movies during initial days of study holidays is OK isn it
@RJ
really,i felt madhuri was good,charisma lacked maybe due to poor choreography !
n man i havent yet seen shawshank
n jannat lol ! how’d u rate jannat ?
@sandeep
oh,u know ,that guy tells em that only one makes it to be an intern ?!maybe i am confused then,i thought intern it is ?!
haha old beggar hilarious ! the taxi driver scene is the one wherein he drops his boss after solving the cube ?!is it after that ?
@radhesh
u bet ? initial days only masti
@Megs – I think choregraphy was done by Vaibhavi Merchant. All in all – I liked Akshay’s acting in the whole movie and even Konkana was (not-so!)neat.
How could you miss Shawshank? A must watch!
Let’s not talk about Jannat and freak my mind more!
How can anybody (read: all girls) like Emraan? Can you explain?
@Megs
only one intern gets a job.
yup after he drop that fatso.. he doesn’t have money to pay for taxi!
lol ok san
@RJ
yeah,her choreography was quite a dud in aaja nachle ..
shawshank-will watch soon
i dont really like emraan
@Megs – Any idea why happiness is spelt as “happyness” in POH?
Was wondering??!!
@RJ
In the movie, Jaden Smith goes to some preschool or kinda a baby sitter/day-care center..
in that they would have written happYness for happiness.. Will Smith points that out to the teacher there and tells them it should be happIness and not happYness.
I think this is why they got the name.. may be a real life incident
@Sandy – Tnx. I remm the scene, but it doesn’t make sense to name the title based on tht scene – thats what I thought.
Have you seen the director’s commentary of this movie?
BTW – how do you remm each and everythg from the movie – damn, pretty cool!!
~RJ
@RJ
haven’t seen the dir’s commentary..
I have a knack to remember the unwanted and petty incidences in life
@san and RJ
i know about the pre-schooler incident that happens,i feel the director just wanted to empasize that no matter how it is spelt,it is a difficult state of mind to achieve nevertheless… the last scene,wherein smith says “and this part of my life,little part of my life,is called happiness
”
the movie is inspired by a true story too
@Megs – Ahh! nice interpretation, never thought like that! BTW, I bought a netflix account! Hurray
Hey did you change ur theme to ? It looks pretty cool!
@RJ
yeah ,break from the monotony
change of theme !
