Wats with me n Chennai :) some strange magnetic bond that makes me visit again n again ? Was there for my 3rd visit this year with family .

Left on 4th Oct by the Airavat Bus to Chennai, back on the 7th morning

The Airavat/Volvo buses are just about ok,I would anyday prefer Shatabdi trains over the buses, since they cost around the same and the volvo’s seating is just about ok …I couldnt sleep in peace thanks to the Antartic-like AC ,I dont understand,is it not possible to design/control AC’s to maintain the right temperature in a bus? Why do they have to make us shiver like we are going to a hill station or somethin!

This trip was eventful,I went back to Pothy’s again ;) and we also went to Saravana Stores this time.OMG!This place is always swarming with people,I was shocked by the sheer number of people thronging the store and that too on a Monday evening!Statistically Chennai is roughly about 2 times bigger than Blore and has about 4 times a greater population!PHEW ….since the car we hired got a flat tyre,we even managed to get to Tnagar by autos !

PS: I saw this review about Saravana stores here and its hilarious :) Enjoy
Got some unique pics this time

Next time go by plane…..it has many advantages :-

1.) The plane will land before it has even taken off properly.

2.) You get to see the whole of Bengaluru by the time you reach the airport.

3.) You can avoid a flat tyre (atleast in most cases! :-D )

4.) You won’t feel like you are in Antarctica.

:-P

42. My3 - October 24, 2008

Funny post. I used to live in Madras about 20 years ago. Then we only had Pondy Bazaar and Kumarans and Nalli’s in Panagal Park. There used to be small chaat place below Prince Jewellers and if you went around the corner there would be an ice-cream place. After eating that samosa chaat, which was new to Madras then, my mom and I would start sweating as we were not used to such spicy oniony food and then eat an ice-cream.
In Pondy Bazaar there used to be a Nalli;s which only sold blouse piece and other materials. There was a sugarcane juice stand on the opposite side. Behind it was a gas station and a ration shop.
Then there was Salaam stores and Bombay Stores. Ofcourse I am sure that I will not be able to find my way there :-) anymore

43. Sahaja - October 25, 2008

@ Megyaan – ThanQ…..ya thats me :-) ….I have added yours on my reader….:-D

44. Apar - October 25, 2008

Hopped on here from Nikhil’s. Why even do you want to go to Pothy’s of all places?!? And Saravana stores?!!!! I have been in Chennai almost all my life and have probably been to Saravana Stores once and Pothys…never :D Been to the Pothys at Tirunelveli though. There are so many other shops you can choose. Mail me next time you are here, will direct you to better shops with less crowd :) and to add on definitely better quality ;)

45. megcloud9 - October 25, 2008

@my3

welcome to moregyan :)

hey i think the ice cream place is still thr !or is it a fruit juice stall?i’m confused !

48. Arpit - October 30, 2008

well i have never been to chennai infact i have never been to any other state except haryana , punjab, UP and uttrakhand…… but i have this fancy for coastal areas sun and sand its always interesting :P
but my mother has been to chennai and she found the beaches not that pleasant she told me that not enough of cleanliness is maintained particularly on marina beach

50. Destination Infinity - November 2, 2008

Food, in Chennai is much better than Bglore. The normal masala dosa’s aside, taste Lemon rice with Sambar, or Puliyodharai with Vadai or just tea with masala vada at a local shop or Carrot halwa/ rava upma at Mylapore Karpagambal Mess or Sundal with mango pieces at the beach or Astra (Combination of apple and strawberry juice @Fruit Shop @Greams Road…. Pure Bliss!!

For Shopping, go to Spencer plaza, it is the biggest mall in South India.
